I bought this because I wanted a pedometer that I can drop in my pocket. It's nice looking and comfortable. The features are nice. It's easy to set. Customer service is great. Trouble is, this pedometer, regardless of the numerous glowing reviews, is inaccurate.



A 12 step auto filter counteracts bouncing in the pocket, but causes the pedometer to undercount during daily movement by about 50% during tests on the waist.



I have personally tested this pedometer against numerous other pedometers and find it inferior.



I'm now wearing a Yamax Power Walker and like it. I would not recommend any Omron pedometer for the reason stated above.

I've had at least 4 pedometers & trashed them all. This one is by far the best. It was recommended to me by a colleague - not this specific one, they got the one without the data upload. But this one is more accurate, its sturdier & nicer to look at than the others. You can wear this one on your hip, on the front pocket of your pants, you can hook it on your bra strap, its just THE BEST pedometer I've ever had. I did manage to break the teather: the clip is plastic & somehow I managed to break it. But I just bought another one but with a metal clamp, like the kind we used to have on our suspenders. Anyways, this one costs a bit more, but like anything, you get what you pay for.

This is my third pedometer (actually the second one of this model). After reading this article:[....], I wanted to keep track of my steps, and lose a few pounds in the process. I gave my old pedometer away, and bought one I could use to upload and graph data. Since I already owned the Omron BP monitor that interfaces with the same product, I was thrilled that I could track my blood pressure alongside my steps. This pedometer is so incredibly accurate compared to the old one. It maps calories burned and aerobic steps as well. The software lets you set goals and graphs show you how well you did meeting your goals.



Unfortunately, like other reviewers have mentioned, it does fall off, and absolutely needs to be used with the safety clip. When I lost my first one, I couldn't find another that I would prefer after talking to fellow techie fitness geeks. Several of my friends also have one and we "compete." So now my daily step count continually rises in my competition. I find myself parking very far away from grocery stores so I can accumulate more steps.



The main reason I wanted to write this review was because I accidentally ran it through a "super wash" cycle in my washing machine yesterday. Although it didn't appear damaged, it stopped counting steps midway through the day today. I unscrewed the front, dried it with a Q-tip and it works perfectly again!! Amazing!

This pedometer works extremely well. I wear mine daily (on my waist). It is very accurate. I also appreciate the calories burned feature as it keeps me from eating those extra little goodies that have only 250 or 300 calories per bag when I realize that I have to walk 3 miles to work that little bag off. I have not used the computer application. One down side, there isn't a daily "reset" button, so if you walk a bit and then have a specific area to walk that you want to measure, you can't reset it to zero as it resets itself overnight.

Had to install the new battery that comes with the pedometer per the description. (Need a little screwdriver, but it there is a separate compartment for the battery to go into, so no messing with the electronics). Removed the old battery, and it fired right up. Pedometer counts steps, distance (does not allow stride input) and calories burned (no weight Input). Overall accuracy is nothing to compare to that of a PE318 or HJ112 Pedometer, but if you are looking for an inexpensive activity monitor this is a decent product for the price.

I purchased the Omron Hip Pedometer as part of my New Year's resolution to move more. The "Accurate SmartSensor Technology" says it's 'more advanced than pendulum pedometers'. I'm not sure what that means, but it says in its documentation that the pedometer measures the following: steps, moderate steps and minutes, distance, and calories burned. A clock and a 7 day memory that resets at midnight are also part of the package.



When I took it out of the box I noticed the weight - very light. The display is large, so squinting to read it isn't needed. The display isn't lighted though, which would have been a nice addition.



Set-up was relatively quick and easy. The battery is already installed, so it's simply a matter of following the enclosed directions to set it. Proper placement on your hip is essential for the device to work, but that too is in the directions.



One thing that I'm not sure is a good thing or not is that when I ride a recumbent bike at the gym and wear this pedometer, it counts the revolutions of the bike pedals as steps. Yes, I could take it off to ride the bike... but frankly, I love to see those numbers!



Overall I'm pleased with the purchase. I can't speak to its longevity as a device, but it seems durable and well made. It fits in the palm of my hand (I have small hands) and the clip attaches firmly to my pants whether I'm wearing yoga pants to workout or my jeans while I'm out on my daily errands.

I was skeptical about the accuracy, so I have been cross checking it in my normal obsessive compulsive way. It's very accurate. One small thing to be careful of is the belt clip. My pants are pretty tight (or I wouldn't have bought the thing in the first place). I got in the car the first morning, when unbeknownst to me, the pedometer sprung off my belt (due to my annoying belly). Luckily, I found it under the seat (pedometer, not belly), and noticed a small hole drilled in the belt clip. I passed a piece of string through the hole, and looped it around my belt to avoid loosing it in the future. The only down side was that I missed getting credit for the steps while the unit was MIA in my car.

Works great and I like that the display isn't always on (the energy save mode saves on battery life and others can't see the steps I've done - all you have to do is touch a button and the screen comes back on). I also like the moderate step function as it can help me track when I'm being truly active.



I had the fancier Omron before (HJ720 which had downloading capabilities) and I never downloaded my data after the first couple weeks. So, it wasn't worth it to me to spend extra for a function I would not use. Also, that screen was always on and so the battery life was shorter. That one also had a TERRIBLE clip. The pedometer was always falling off. Eventually, it fell into water and died so I had to buy a new one (this one) and this one has a MUCH better clip on it. The HJ model fell off at least once a day and this one hasn't fallen off at all in the couple months I've had it.



The only reason it's a 4 star and not a 5 star is that when I start going through the different modes it has (total steps, moderate steps, miles, calories, etc - there is a 7 day history for each of these too), I inevitably get stuck going through 7 days of history for the steps/miles/calories because I start pushing one of the 2 buttons to get out of there. I wish there was a home button. But if you just leave it alone and it goes into its energy saver mode (after less than a minute), it goes back to the steps for today screen when you turn touch any button. I believe most pedometers have this issue though.

However, after buying two of them, one fell off and was lost, the other fell off and was broken, I have switched to another omron that can be better attached. The one I purchased and have now, can track more "stuff" that I don't need but it has a better clip and it comes with a safety leash. The pedometer has come off, but because of the leash, it has not fallen to the ground. Hopefully I'll have this one for a while.
