- Twin blades shave you twice with each stroke eliminating irritating repeat strokes for a faster shave than with a double edge blade
- The pivoting head automatically follows the contours of your face so you don't have to. This keeps the blades at the optimal angle to reduce nicks, cuts and missed spots.
- The lubricating strip activates when wet, reducing pulling and skin irritation for a smoother more comfortable shave.

"Excellent Razors for an Excellent Blade!!" 2009-09-19
By R. Hurd (Frisco, Texas)
Very happy with my purchase. I have ordered and received these Atra replacement razor handles from both of the sellers shown on Amazon (as of this review date), and they have both delivered in rapid time. I have always been happy with Atra cartridge blades, and I see no reason to start paying double for currently offered blades, just because the various razor blade companies have colluded to price-fix the market to only offer higher priced products in the United States. I stock up on generic blades every time I find them on sale, and now I'm stocking up on extra Atra razor handles. Thanks! (NOTE: It looks like these Atra Razor Handles are manufactured for an overseas market, since several languages are printed on the package. But the quality is still there.)

 "needed atra razor" 2009-09-12
By M. Beason (Waldport, OR)
What's to say? I kept buying blades that fit an atra razor thinking that's what I had or that I had one but I didn't. It pivots. I refuse to buy into the five blades cut better than one theory. I stopped at two. The only problem is you can't find one of these razors at the store any more. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the factory blade that came with it was only good for a couple of shaves. The aftermarket blades, which I had a ton of, work much better and longer.

 "Great razor" 2009-07-04
By J. Navone
I grow a heavy beard and I hate shaving. This blade allows me to go two days before I really need to shave. Blade last a long time. I surmise that the it is from the fact that you can clean it really well with the vibrating feature of the razor. I will not use any other razor than this one.

"Great deal? Maybe only comparitively." 2009-06-24
By PenaltyShot (CA)
You're just price-gouged a little less here than buying elsewhere, that's all.

You don't really save much of anything by buying in bulk, if you do the math and compare cost per blade of the 8 and 16-count packages with the 24-count package.

You do save money in comparison with buying the blades at most drug stores. However, I still wouldn't call this a great deal. It's just simply LESS expensive, but still expensive. Two greenbacks and a quarter per blade is not my idea of cheap; it's more akin to the rip-off pricing of ink jet cartridges. Sell the device for cheap, and then charge a ridiculous price for its consumables.

Don't get me wrong, it's a nice shaving system. But the blades shouldn't cost that much.

"Gillette Fusion razor blades-worth every dime!" 2009-06-17
By R. Stanworth (Delta, Utah)
I have loved the Gillette Fusion Razor Blades, but they have become so expensive I thought I would have to change to a different blade. I was very happy when I found them on Amazon.com with a great savings!! If you haven't tried them, I would recommend them. When you need to buy blades, come to Amazon for your yearly supply. Thanks for a great product at such a super price.

"trimming blade not so accurate" 2009-05-07
By Francisco Messeguer (Mexico, D.F. Mexico)
I have problems using the trimming blade around the nose due to the pivoted movement of the blade causing innacurate shave ( I use moustache and beard) I have to use my valuable running out stock of Gillette microtrac razors to complete the operation.

 "Progress" 2009-10-03
By Ash (abroad)
Many decades ago in the USA streetcar tracks were ripped out in cities all across the country and replaced with buses. And it was called "progress." What actually happened in these cities was that the public officials were bribed, excuse me, enticed, by the manufacturers of buses, tires and producers of gasoline to scrap all street cars and trollies and enter the 20th century. The product that replaced the street car was actually inferior. Same for the DE razor: manufacturers discovered they could make more money with an inferior product but call it "progress."

The first time I used my Merkur Classic was on my chest (my wife likes it smooth) and as it isn't particularly hairy it wasn't much of a challenge. Holding the razor lightly I only nicked myself twice around the collar bone. My second shave was on my chest as well - didn't have any nicks that time but applied too much pressure and had serious razor burn.

The third shave was on my face and I rate that shave "fair" with no nicks. The 4th shave was "good" but nicked myself badly working a patch of hair on my neck that I just couldn't get close enough. What made the 4th shave "good" was that I relaxed and trusted myself, actually closing my eyes and going by feel like I do with other shaving implements. The 5th shave was "very good" with no nicks and not much mirror time as I was in the zone. The only problem I have now isn't with the Merkur or the blade but simply discovering the best was to get those 2-3 places on my neck and jaw line that aren't easily shaved.

Update: I got my first "excellent" shave with this razor the other day. By "excellent" I mean superior to any 4 blade contraption or the latest from Braun or Norelco. It wasn't bloodless however and it wasn't quick. Today (I don't shave everyday) I got "excellent" shave #2 with much less blood in about the same amount of time. Also, I am using the mirror less and less, instead relying on touch/feel and intuition.

When I am satisfied I have gotten the ins and outs of this razor down pat I may upgrade to a Merkur Futur.

 "Highly recommended!" 2009-08-26
By J. Ard
Nice weight, looks good. When I took it out of its box, I could immediately tell I was holding a tool that was made with pride. The finish was beautiful, everything fit precisely together. Think of going to wall-mart and buying a knockoff tool, and then comparing that same tool to a craftsman or other reputable tool maker. You can tell the difference by sight/weight/balance and feel. I also purchased a parker 22r gunmetal finish butterfly safety razor - I recommend the merkur. I learned Merkur is owned by Dovo - a reputable straight razor company located in Solingen, Germany known as the "city of blades." They have stringent quality control and a product can only be marked with the "Solingen" name if it meets the criteria for quality set by the government. This merkur razor is branded Solingen. You won't be disappointed with this product.

**Note: when I purchased this razor I did so thinking it was the HD (34C) version of this razor. I became confused when I noticed it was called the classic but the picture looked so much like the classic HD. Anyway, the razor arrived and the manufacturer item number on the box is 9034001. This number corresponds to the 34C or "Heavy Duty". Apparently it goes under the name HD, 34C and 178 on the internet. I can't say if this is a mistake on the part of the various vendors or if Merkur perhaps changed the name somewhere along the line? I'm happy I got the razor I intended, but anyone not wanting the heavier razor will be disappointed. Hope this helps.

 "Not For Every Beard" 2009-08-01
By K. Hollins (Baltimore, MD USA)
I bought the Merkur after reading lots of great reviews, and because I have a nostalgia for old fashioned things. I used it for about a month, and then for comparison I switched back to my Sensor Excel. No comparison. For closeness and ease of shaving the sensor was just much, much better. I was really disappointed because I was rooting for the Merkur. In reality I shouldn't have been surprised. How would newer models ever have sold successfully if they were not, in some way, improved? Maybe it's because I have a really tough beard; I can't say for sure. The one place where the Merkur came out ahead was that I noticed I never got any nicks or cuts while using it. But again, I didn't get a close shave either. So, the only thing I can say for sure is that it must be great for some guys (based on the reviews), but it isn't for every beard. For what it's worth, I hope this helps other guys who might be taking a look at the Merkur or other classic safety razors. Happy shaving.

"Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely" 2009-06-05
By J. Hanna (Colorado USA)
Over the last year, I had begun to get ingrown hairs on my legs. I have always had SOME issue with my legs...razor burn, bumps, ingrown hairs...but now consistently looking like I had 8-10 mosquito bites per leg was just too much...it was horrifying. In my desperation, I went ahead and purchased Tend Skin through Amazon (best price I found).

I cannot stress stongly enough how happy I am to have done that. I have been using it regularly for 2 months now, (day and night) and my old ingrown hairs are finally all cleared up, and I have not had a single recurrence.

Maybe it doesn't work for everyone, but it worked for me...and now for the first time in my life, in my mid-thirties, I finally feel good about the way my legs look.

As to the product being painful to use: My legs have always been very sensitive (the burn from the salty ocean is unbearable), but so long as I waited about an hour after I showered and shaved the stinging was quite minor.

As to the price of the product: When you have a problem that causes high levels of pain and embarrassment, and you then find something that will solve that problem completely...in my opinion, that makes it worth every single penny.

"Used it for years- skin saver" 2009-03-03
By cookie chick (Northern California)
I've been using Tend Skin for over 10 years. As someone who can't shave my legs or wax without too many ingrown hairs, this product makes hair removal possible when it wasn't before.

Use it twice a day, morning and night (wait at least a few hours after shaving to use) for a few days after you shave or wax (or everyday) exfoliates your skin so that hairs don't get trapped under your skin. Works well with a loofah type products like these scrubbing gloves AquaBella Bath Gloves

I am only giving it 4 stars because it's expensive.

NOTE: DO NOT USE ON FRESHLY SHAVED SKIN! Read the directions. This does NOT TREAT razor burn, but rather PREVENT it. If you use it on raw skin it burns really bad.

"Horrible product; burns like HELL" 2008-08-08
By Joan Willams
Very Disappointed... NEVER had so many ingrown hairs in my life while using TEND SKIN!!!!! HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!

10 years ago, I started to wax my bikini area and always used Princereigns to prevent ingrowns. I never had to worry about ingrowns. Three months ago, as I was looking for good deals for Princereigns, I came across Tend Skin on Amazon and read all the positive reviews. Most people seemed to have a mixed outcome, plus it was more harsh and thought maybe I should try something stronger. I thought "cant go wrong, I'll try it out. I was never unhappy with Princereigns, but it did work well and moisturize my skin but I was open to trying something new and Tend Skin seemed promising. Girl, was I wrong!!! I didn't know how great Princereigns was in preventing ingrowns until I stopped using it and started to use Tend Skin. I gave Tend Skin 2 months to redeem itself...that was too long!!! I was way too optimistic. Currently, I have so many bumps and ingrowns, it's too embarrassing to wear a bikini bottom! I have never had so many ingrown hairs in my life. I just received Princereigns in the mail, and hopefully, it'll help my waxed area clear up before I take my vacation in 1 week. I'm never going to use Tend Skin- I wish there was a money back guarantee. Even my husband who uses Princereigns on his face got more ingrowns while using Tend Skin. I wonder if you're better off using anything at all then to use Tend Skin(to save money!)
