 "unreliable" 2010-03-29

By KRM

I'm sending this back. We got it because our doctor said the wrist cuffs are not reliable. (We have a wrist cuff of a different brand.) However, we've compared them, and for my mom there is no significant difference: both monitors have a large range of error (variation in repeated readings), but they overlap. Also, my mom cannot use the upper-arm cuff herself, so I have to do it for her, whereas she can operate the wrist cuff herself.

But the real problem is that the Omron cannot measure my father's BP, and he's the one the the higher blood pressure. In the week plus since it arrived, trying half a dozen times a day, we've had only two successful readings. The wrist cuff, on the other hand, works every time. It does occasionally give an anomalously high reading (maybe twice a week), but taking two readings with the wrist cuff to compensate for that is still more reliable than six 'error' readings with the Omron. And it's nice that they don't have to call me every time they want to take their blood pressure.

 "Recommended by my doctor" 2010-03-27

My doctor said get the manual blood pressure monitor. You don't need to pay for extra features. She said she did it all day and I could use it once a day. It was easy to use and much cheaper.

 "blood pressure monitor" 2010-03-24

By Priscilla Hopkins Geer (Old Saybrook, CT)

Excellent product, recommended by doctor. Took it to doctor today to have it calibrated and it agreed with his monitor. The only thing I would change is to have spent the additional money for the automatic inflatable cuff.

 "Difficult to use!" 2010-03-13

By J. Bartels (Lincoln, NE United States)

The product description stated, "Manual blood pressure monitor is the simplest way to take blood pressure readings at home." So I did not get the self inflating model. I pump the bulb as stated in the directions (I follow the directions exactly). It takes many attempts before I get a reading. And I wait the required time before a new attempt. Even though I do exactly the same thing sometimes I get a EE (underinflated) and sometimes I get an E (overinflated). By the time I get a reading I don't know if I have high blood pressure because I have high blood pressure or because I am totally frustrated.

 "Accurate Monitor" 2010-02-23

By Pauline M. Frampton (Bountiful, Utah)

At first I had a few problems getting a reading because the instructions were not as clear as they could have been. Once I got it figured out, I have liked using the monitor. Obviously the automatic one would be better, but this was in my price range.
