I use to have a machine that you had to pump up with the bulb. This product is so great. You just slip it onto your arm and push the start button and it does the rest. I would highly recommend this product. I will always buy a self inflating machine from now on.

This is my second Omron and it is great. Has no printout feature like my old one but I can manage by writing down each pressure and pulse to take to my cardiologist. It's memory holds a month's worth of pressures but I only see my cardio doc every 3 months.

The cuff is very easy to apply to my own arm and it inflates FAST. I like that.

The read out is large, so even with lousy vision I can read it easily.

I highly recommend this machine.

I have been using a wrist blood pressure monitor for several years, but recently the band broke so I was in the market for a new one. The Omron HEM-650 had the best ratings across the review sites I visited. Since I received the device it has been a pleasure to use. The accuracy appears to be excellent (I have not checked it with the medical profession yet). The display is easy to read, and the average function is handy. I did find one strange and unique function. Most blood pressure monitors increase the pressure (manually or automatically) until all blood flow is cut off, then gradually release the pressure measuring the systolic pressure and then the diastolic pressure as the cuff pressure is released. The HEM-650 automatically starts increasing the pressure slowly measuring the diastolic pressure and then the systolic pressure on the way up, and then releases all the pressure. The value in this is that you never experience more pressure than is necessary to measure the systolic pressure. The advanced positioning sensor is somewhat flaky. If you hold your arm against your chest with the device at heart level it works fine. However, if you want to rest your elbow on a table or chair arm and position the device at heart level, it is difficult to find the place where the sensor is happy.



Overall, I rate the HEM-650 as an excellent device and would recommend it to others.

Getting the sensor to be activated is a painful task. I had to re-position myself many times to have BP measured. Many times the monitor stopped working mid-way because I moved a bit and gave inconsistent results within 1-2 mins of measurement.

Frankly, I am not a big fan of wrist monitors. Arm-monitors are more reliable albiet a bit bulky in today's technology standards.

I bought this strap to reinforce the one on my new pedometer. It has a metal clasp that attaches to your waistband. The first time I used it, the strap broke away from the metal clasp and I found the pedometer with the strap in my pocket and the clasp alone attached to my waistband. Luckily the pedometer was in my pocket. I'm still using the strap after tying it with several knots to the clasp. However, if my pedometer had not been a pocket model, it would have been lost on the first day. I would not recommend this strap to anyone.

So far, after a month, it works well and results have been good, and consistent. I'm pleased with it in all aspects except trying to get the band around my arm while keeping it in the proper position. It seems more difficult with the solid, inflexible plastic portion of the cuff, makes it harder to put on my arm than a traditional flexable cuff. This one seems like you almost need three hands. Other than that difficulty, I'm very happy with it and it performs as it should.

My doctor recommended the brand and once I researched the models, I knew I wanted this one since it could be shared by two people and had the software for storing and printing out results. I also love that it can do 3 readings at once and give me the average. It takes 5 minutes. When I first used it, I got an Error message so I called the 800 number and she suggested I tighten the cuff, which solved the problem and I've never had another problem. I've had this unit for about a month now. The Walgreen's in town didn't carry this model. Amazon's price was better than the lesser featured models carried at Walgreen's.

I do not write reviews, but this item deserves a review. I went through about five Timex HRMs before this one and they barely lasted one year, then I decided to buy this one. I thought at this price I could afford to buy one every year. This monitor doesn't have a lot of features, but it's a $30 item! I looked at a couple of the one star ratings on this watch that say it has a hard time locking on to your heart rate, this may be true to an extent, but you just need to give it that 5-7 minutes in warm up to become accurate. It will work great as soon as your heart, and it, is warmed up. I've found all monitors to be like this.



The main reason I'm writing this review is that I've been training with this monitor for the last THREE years 4-6 times per week for nine months out of the year and this monitor is as good as it was when I got it, and I'll get another when this one decides it doesn't want to work any more.

I just got this yesterday, and used it during my almost 40 minute step workout. So far, it works great! Very easy to use, the instructions are clear. You just wet the conducters to get a reading (doesn't take much at all!) and away you go. I set up the target heart rate zone (I'm trying to burn fat, so I set it b/w 60% and 74%). Works great! It beeped when it was out of range, and I was able to hear it over my step aerobic DVD (and it's at a loud enough volume) so all in all, it does exactly what I need it to - definitely worth the money!



I'm surprised at all the negative reviews, quite frankly. But, I saw similar reviews with the same complaints for the much, much more expensive monitors as well, so you can't please everyone!



But for me, it works fine, and would definitely recommend it.



EDIT: I just wanted to add that I was skeptical about using the chest strap with the monitor - I thought it would be uncomfortable, but I found it was quite comfortable. After you put it on, and adjust the strap properly, it's easy to forget you have it on, especially when you're working out. So again, a very good buy, and you can't beat the price - I'm going to have to check out Omron's pedometers as well...

the heart rate readings were erratic and inconsistent. Also, the alarm letting you know when you are outside of your heart rate training zone is barely audible.



The controls are nice, and the transmitter and receiver are very comfortable to wear.



Unfortunately, the cons outweigh the pros. It's going back to Amazon.com.
