The review by "M. Guillermo 'Beach book worm'" covers a lot of details, and I agree with a lot of that review.
My experience so far - I've had the Clarisonic Pro brush for a little over a week. I will update this review as I have more to report.
- I have been using the brush twice a day. My skin feels smoother, tighter (in a good way), softer, and more clean. It seems to "take" moisturizer better when I put it on.
- I am experiencing what others have talked about: getting small whiteheads in some areas. I don't typically get whiteheads. From what I understand, this is normal when one first starts using the product and is part of the process as dirt and oils that have been under the skin are loosened and move to the surface. This is even happening in areas where I have small clusters of blackheads which haven't responded to anything in the past (these clusters showed up within the last few years - not sure how much is due to aging skin and how much may be due to heating with a wood stove and having frequent exposure to smoke/heat when feeding the stove). Anyway - I do take the whiteheads as a good sign. Of course, I don't want this phase to last too long, but I'm willing to bear it and push through.
- I have noticed that some fine lines seemed a little more noticeable within the past couple of days, but I started using Jojoba oil on my face after cleaning and that seems to be doing the trick. (Cleaning twice a day is twice as much cleaning as usual for me and my skin tends to dry out, so this doesn't seem to be cause for alarm - just keeping an eye on it.)
- I am going to push through because, overall, I do already feel that my skin is healthier. My face feels more "fresh", it feels better to the touch, it looks healthier - more pink (not because of irritation). I feel that it is improving the circulation (I have not read any hard facts on that, just saying what it feels like). There is nothing like sonic vibrations - they get far below the surface. It is a mini massage and I actually enjoy the process. If the fine lines don't seem to get steadily worse with use of the Clarisonic, I will continue to use it.
- So far I am very happy with this purchase. It is a relatively big ticket item, but I've learned over the years that buying cheap alternatives doesn't always work out. I sometimes end up with loads of similar items I don't use, having spent almost as much/more than the price of the single item I really wanted (not to mention all the wasted time/effort).
- The brush came with the Sensitive brush head and I wouldn't go with a "tougher" brush, personally. I have read that many people find that their sensitivity goes down over time. This may be the case and would make sense, as I've found that using sonic toothbrushes makes my gums much less sensitive. I will see how my skin feels over time and decide if I want to purchase a Delicate or Normal brush head next.
---------------------------
Some of the factors I weighed before making the purchase, just FYI:
- I've not been one to take up or maintain a skin care routine. If it takes longer than soaking a couple of cotton balls in Witch Hazel and wiping my face I haven't had time for it. Only in the last few years have I occasionally added Oil of Olay to my limited routine. Even more recently, in response to the appearance of new lines, I started using alpha hydroxy products at night and an exfoliant scrub with salicylic acid. I DEFINITELY noticed an improvement in my skin (loved it) but was conflicted, due to the known (and unknown) toxicity of many of the ingredients. I wanted to find an alternative to using these products long term.
- Just a month ago I talked with a woman I know who said she uses the Clarisonic religiously and has for about a year. She said it has worked wonders for her skin. She is a no-fuss, no-nonsense kind of person who is not generally concerned with beauty products and has never spent so much on something for her face. Hearing her rave about a product is rare, and so I found myself considering this very expensive product.
- I looked around online for reviews and information. I looked at the Clarisonic site for info (taking their claims and gushing videos with a grain of salt), at reviews here and on beauty and dermatology/medical sites/blogs, etc. Overwhelmingly, what I found was positive (even if I assume that some of the reviews may have been "plants" or that some reviewers received Clarisonic freebies and so were biased). There were some reviewers who said they didn't see results, there were some who gave up early on because they started to break out. Given that other information made it clear that there could be a phase of increased breakout, I was willing to take that risk. Not all things that are worth doing will give the desired results instantaneously. I am interested in a long term solution, so I am willing to go through bumpy periods, and I had a feeling that I would see at least some good results.
- I use sonic toothbrushes and love them. My gums are MUCH healthier from the use of them, and so I am sold on sonic technology.
- When I first heard of the sonic face brush I could imagine what it would feel like on the skin and the benefits made sense to me. I also could understand the difference between using a sonic brush and using a scrub or manual face brush. This point seems to be one of confusion: you are not scrubbing your face with the Clarisonic in order to aggressively abrate the top layer. Abrating can irritate and damage the skin, sometimes even making breakouts and wrinkles more likely. And any good effects from abrating can only get so far down into the skin. The Clarisonic brush is relatively soft and you use very light pressure. The bristles transmit the sonic vibration into your skin. Sonic vibrations can get much farther down through the skin to stimulate and loosen, without having to manhandle the top layer in order to do so.
- I've read many statements about how use of the Clarisonic can make other skin products more effective, so that less needs to be used. This was a big selling point for me, given how much moisturizing I need to do (especially in the winter) and my increasing concerns about the long term safety of many ingredients in skin care/beauty products. I am going to replace the Clarisonic liquid cleansers with others. I will start trying out different products based on the info I find on sites such as the "Skin Deep: Cosmetic Safety Database" (you can search by company name, brand name, product or ingredient).
- I have areas of dry skin on my arms and legs, and was interested in having the body brush head because of reported improvements to skin texture. There are some relevant before and after photos on the Clarisonic site under Before and After, Skin Texture.

Turns out all that has been said about the product is pretty much true. I wasn't convinced a cleansing system should cost so much but the girl friend's elatedand that more than makes up for it. She says it works great and she's been secretly wanting it for a long time (wasn't a great secret considering the information was leaked to me). The product works as described and seems to do a pretty good job of making sure the skin looks and feels fresh.
Guys, get this thing. It will make her happy.

Used for 6 weeks saw no difference in my skin-did see a few more light wrinkles. I already have wrinkles and do not need any more. Felt good while using, that is the one star!

Love it! My pores are smaller, face is cleaner, fine lines are softer.
I can also tell my skin absorbs my skin products better!
I recommend this item!

I was staying with a friend who urged me to try her Clarisonic brush. Her skin looks fabulous for her age so I jumped at the chance. I've used all kinds of skin brushes and never really noticed any difference, but I liked how soft and smooth my skin felt immediately after using this brush. I am familiar with using ultrasonic vibrations to clean everything from teeth to jewelry to pharmaceutical equipment, so the concept of using it to clean your face is not too far fetched. Since Clarisonic offers a 60-day guarantee, I decided to give it a try.
I have oily, thick skin with large pores and even though I'm in my late 30's, I have regular break-outs. I am also prone to hyperpigmentation. I have now been using this brush for a little over 30 days, twice a day. I can't say my pores are smaller or that I have fewer fine lines. But I definitely have had fewer major flare ups and my skin is finally healing and pigment spots are fading. I do get the impression that my skincare products are more effective. To that point, this brush is intended to be a SUPPLEMENT to a good skincare regime, not a REPLACEMENT for. The effect on my skin wasn't overnight or even in a week. It took time, patience and persistence. Although I haven't seen the huge improvements some people claim, I'm happy enough with the results that I've decided to keep the brush and make it a permanent part of my skincare program.
Pros:
1. The timer is a handy feature that ensures that you don't concentrate too long or too little on one area. I also use the timer for "spot" treatments on areas when I feel a blemish coming on.
2, It's waterproof. This means you can use it in the shower or in the bath.
3. The sample cleanser are nice, but any cleanser appropriate for your skin will do.
4. The model I purchased has variable speed settings. This is great for adjusting to your skincare needs. I started with a lower setting and increased it gradually when I realized my skin could handle it.
Cons:
1. Large and heavy. It does not travel well, especially if you need to also bring the charger. With a full charge, I got about 8 days of twice a day use. If I also used the body brush once a day for 3 minutes, I got about 3-4 days of use.
2. Expensive. However, I'm hoping that with regular use I will no longer need expensive salon treatments like microdermabrasion. Replacement brushes are expensive too.
3. The flat face brush and the flat body brush don't work that well around tight contours of your body such as around the nose or collar.
4. The brush is supposed to last 3-4 months. The face brush lost a hair after 1 week and after a month, it's already starting to look a little grungy.
UPDATE: After 4 months my brush started making a rattling noise and could not tell the difference between the body and face brush anymore. Shortly after that I started breaking out again. I called Clarisonic and without any hassle they immediately sent me a new one. Now that I know it really makes a difference I can't live without it. I also appreciated the fast, friendly service.
